There is little doubt that Kivala Du Berlais is a fascinating contender, but this is a stiff ask on just his second chasing start. Kaadam is more than capable of landing this if avoiding errors, but the safer bet is KOLOKICO, who can go one better than last year. [David Toft] Show less
Spotlight: Produced a career-best when fourth in this in 2024 but well beaten seventh 12 months ago and generally struggled in various company since; could never land a blow in a premier handicap at Aintree last time as a 50-1 chance, so major upturn in form required with tongue-tie returning.
Spotlight: Finished sixth in this in 2024 and a bit inconsistent after until posting a big figure in the Gold Cup and then landing the Grade 2 Prix Ingre here in added cheekpieces (2m6f, very soft) from Toscana Du Berlais, while getting 8lb from that rival (more of these behind); stays well, so holds claims if headgear works again.
Spotlight: Won a Grade 2 chase (2m6f, very soft) here almost a year ago but doesn't head into this in great heart, following a fall in the Grade 2 Prix Murat with a well-beaten eighth in the Prix Ingre 22 days ago, a race that featured a lot of these; marathon trip needs to bring about a lot of improvement.
Spotlight: Unseated when favourite for this race in 2024 and only won victory race since; behind a few of these in November's Grade 1 Prix la Haye Jousselin (3m3f110yds, heavy), mistakes not helping, and not done that well in two starts this year, although they came over shorter; plenty of ability but comes with risks; cheekpieces go on.
Spotlight: Improved with age, running well plenty of times since finishing fourth in this 12 months ago (fell in 2024), most notably recording a career-best when landing the Grade 1 Prix la Haye Jousselin (3m3f110yds, heavy) in November; last run behind Gold Tweet was encouraging considering he gave that rival weight and should be involved.
Spotlight: Knows how to get his head in front (six wins from 17 starts) and did stay 3m2f110yds well enough at Pau in January, but hasn't won a Graded event yet, so needs this extra distance to improve him quite a bit to add to his tally.
Spotlight: Finished fourth in last year's Grade 1 Grande Course de Haies d'Auteuil (3m1f110yds, very soft) here but hasn't done enough as a chaser to suggest he's up to landing a race like this considering his only win over fences was over two years ago and he was behind plenty of these in the Prix Ingre 22 days ago.
Spotlight: Classy performer who won the Grade 1 Prix Ferdinand Dufaure (2m6f, very soft) on this card in 2024; run well plenty of times since, including when second in this 12 months ago, and shaped nicely in the Prix Murat, albeit looking tired late on, when last seen, a race that contained a few of these; sound claims.
Spotlight: Won this race back in 2022 but had a couple of big absences from the track since; beaten 31l in this last year but still more than capable of smart form, although probably vulnerable to younger rivals; trip clearly no problem, so has top-four potential.
Spotlight: Went on a good run of form as a chaser in 2024, the highlight being success in the Grade 1 Prix Maurice Gillois (2m6f, very soft) but not been quite as good since, with finishing a race the main problem recently; stamina has yet to be fully tested but was moving well when falling two out in last year's Grade 1 Prix la Haye Jousselin (3m3f110yds, heavy); loads of talent but jumping the concern.
Spotlight: Winner of seven of his 18 starts and was last seen beating Kaadam 6l when landing a Grade 3 here (2m7f110yds, soft) while getting 11lb; this contest is something else, however, and he needs to prove he can stay this trip.
Spotlight: Only run ten times but has won three Grade 3 chases here at up to 2m6f; struggled at a higher level so far, which suggests this new marathon trip will need to bring about quite a bit of improvement.
Spotlight: Half-brother to Sire Du Berlais among others; won a 2m6f Grade 3 chase here in December and has run better on the figures since, but was over well behind Gold Tweet, and others, in the recent Grade 2 Prix Ingre; another in the field who needs plenty more for a new trip.
Spotlight: Notably a half-brother to Kalif Du Berlais; interesting runner on his best form, most notably his win in the Grade 1 Prix Alain du Breil (hurdle) success last year plus a success over a few of these in the Prix Murat (2m6f, heavy) in March on his chasing debut, staying on powerfully in the home straight; very interesting if stamina holds out over this trip.
