Spain
European and World Champions, Spain, have predictably been installed as favourites for Euro 2012. Previous to Euro 2008, the Spanish had one previous European Championship victory in 1964 but have never gone closer than the quarter final stage otherwise. They qualified for Euro 2012 with a perfect record from a group which they shared with the Czech Republic and Scotland.

Italy
Italy have not won a European Championship since 1969 when as they hosts, took only three games to win the tournament. Since then, a disappointing final appearance in 2008 is all the four-time World Champions have to show in terms of European success. Italy finished top of their Euro 2012 qualifying group, seeing off Slovenia and Serbia in the process.

Republic of Ireland
Republic of Ireland have only qualified for the European Championships once in the past, failing to make it out of their group in 1988. Having finished runners up in their qualification group for Euro 2012 behind Russia, the Boys in Green progressed through a playoff with Estonia, 5-1 on aggregate. The Irish fans are renowned all over the world for bringing colour and fun atmosphere to major tournaments.

Croatia
Croatia’s best results in a European Championship came in 1996 and 2008 when they reached the quarter finals stage. Having failed in a joint bid with Hungary to host Euro 2012, the Croats qualified for the tournament after defeating Turkey 3-0 on aggregate in a playoff. This came as a result of finishing two points behind Greece in their qualifying group.
