Group D of Euro 2012 consists of Ukraine, Sweden, France and England.
Ukraine
In four attempts since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Ukraine has failed to qualify for a European Championship. They automatically qualify for Euro 2012 as a host nation, along with Poland.
Sweden
Sweden’s best performance in a European Championship came as hosts in 1992 when they reached the semi finals stage. Since then the Swedes can only boast a quarter final appearance in Euro 2004 and two group stage exits. They qualified for Euro 2012 by finishing runners up to the Netherlands, fending off Hungary and Finland.
France
France have been crowned European Champions twice, in 1984 on home soil and in 2000. A semi final appearance in 1996 is as close as they have come to a third trophy. The French topped their qualification group for Euro 2012 finishing a single point ahead of Bosnia & Herzegovina after drawing with them at home in their final group game.
England
The closest England have come to winning a European Championship has been there two 3rd place finishes in the tournament, in 1968 and on home soil in 1996. England finished ahead of Montenegro in their Euro 2012 qualification group by six points without recording a loss. Switzerland, Wales and Bulgaria failed to progress from the group.
